Cultivating gratitude is like nourishing the soul with love and appreciation. It's not just a fleeting emotion; it's a mindset that can transform our entire being. And what better way to tap into this powerful energy than through yoga?
I designed this sequence to encourage digestion and a little post-Thanksgiving energy through spinal twists and gentle spinal extension (backbends). This Thanksgiving, let's embark on a journey of self-discovery and gratitude with "Yoga for a Grateful Heart."
This carefully crafted sequence begins with gentle spinal twists, helping us to release any tension or stagnation in the body. Twists are believed to aid in digestion and stimulate energy flow, leaving us feeling refreshed and revitalized.
Gentle backbends are sprinkled throughout to reduce tension in the upper back and open our hearts to offer a landing space for JOY.
This sequence is suitable for all levels—beginners and experienced yogis alike—so don't worry if you're new to yoga! Just remember to listen to your body and always, as usual, err on the side of caution.
As you move through each pose in the sequence, remember to focus on your breath. The breath is not only our anchor, helping us stay grounded and present in the moment. Incorporating yoga into your Thanksgiving tradition can serve as a reminder to slow down and appreciate the abundance of wealth and beauty that surrounds us. Remember to carve out some time to connect, turn inwards, and align with our natural state of being—calm, strong, and deeply contented.
Note: Sun Salutations are an excellent way to prepare for deeper stretching. In India, yogis practiced "Surya Namaskara" with the rising of the sun in a gesture of respect and praise for Surya's magnificent life-giving energy.
May your heart be filled with love, joy, and gratitude today and always.
See you on the mat!
